Sometimes alterations to standard bearings are the simplest way to cost-effectively achieve your needs. Scheerer offers a variety of modification services, such as changes to internal clearance, addition of lubrication features, increasing fillet or chamfer sizes, and many more. We regularly incorporate advanced and even custom materials to achieve a specific performance objective.
Improve Performance, Simplify Maintenance and Increase Bearing Life
Modifying standard bearings is cost effective and it shortens delivery times. Changing internal radial clearances is a common modification for standard, off the shelf bearings. Reworking deep groove or angular contact ball bearings into hybrid bearings is accomplished by replacing the steel balls with ceramic balls. Additional modifications include special bearing cages machined from materials such as peek, phenolic and polyamide.
Scheerer Bearing can add or increase the amount of lubrication holes on standard bearings. This type of modification increases your options for lubrication and minimizes equipment downtime, while improving bearing life.
Machining processes, such as converting cylindrical bores to taper bores and flush grinding, are common modification requests from original equipment manufacturers. Scheerer has the capability to stock customized bearings, reducing long lead times.

Bearing Cleaning and Lubrication Service
Scheerer Bearing offers general maintenance services for large bearings including cleaning and lubrication services. Consisting of a thorough cleaning and reapplication of grease to the bearing, the maintenance process is often pre-scheduled to eliminate or minimize your machine downtime.
A wide variety of specialty lubricants are available. Also, special needs can be accommodated in our Bearing Services and Reconditioning Department. If you prefer to provide your own highly specialized lubricant, Scheerer can pre-lubricate bearings with whatever you supply.
